The Victorian Coalition Government has invested $35,000 from its $1 billion Regional Growth Fund to project the Star Cinema in Eaglehawk into the digital age.
"This grant enables Star Cinema to enter the digital age, and ensures that both the Eaglehawk and Bendigo community can enjoy the best and most upto date content and films that are on offer. It will also ensure that Star Cinema continues to attract important film festivals to our region.” Said Liberal candidate for Bendigo East, Greg Bickley.
MP for Northern Victoria, Damian Drum, said the funding would help with the installation of digital cinema technology as an alternative to existing 35mm cinema equipment.
“The distribution of 35mm film through major film distributors has ceased and our funding will help secure the future of the popular cinema,” Mr Drum said.
“The cinema plays a vital role in encouraging social connectedness within the community and it has become a focal point for family activity and socialising,” he said.
“Without the upgrade to digital cinema technology and equipment, the cinema would inevitably close and residents would be forced to travel to nearby Bendigo for cinema screenings.
“Installing digital technology will increase community participation in movies aimed at youth, providing an all-weather recreational activity for Eaglehawk residents.
“It will also help attract new cinema viewers to the Star Cinema, resulting in flow on economic benefits to other businesses in Eaglehawk.”
