Encouraging people to strive for something better, whether
that be personally, for their family, or for their community is something I believe in. I have always known the value of hard work and self reliance.
I was born in Elmore in 1970, and raised on family farm at Goornong.
Family: Happily married to Leisha with three children: Paris, Felix & Blake. We live in Bendigo.
Education: Goornong Primary School, then White Hills Technical School (now Weeroona College), before shifting to Girton College Bendigo.
Attended LaTrobe University Bendigo studying a combined degree in Applied Science (computing) and Business (Accounting) before being recalled to the family business.
Employment: Initially I worked in the family business which grew to include Hospitality and Tourism, Primary Production, Agriculture, Warehousing, Distribution and Interstate Transport, employing up to 50 staff. To supplement a minimal wage I worked weekend 12 hour shifts as a construction worker for John Holland. I have been a Forklift Driver, Interstate Truck Driver, Labourer, Salesman, Office Manager, Barman, Cleaner and Company Director.
I started my own company in 2002 providing wholesale distribution of stockfeed to the thoroughbred racing industry. Then in 2005, a refrigerated transport business in Melbourne. Today, I still operate a warehousing logistics company from Bendigo, specialising in warehouse design and fitout.
Community: I have found great satisfaction in the opportunity to serve others. I initially joined the Bendigo Rotary Club 16 years ago. I have worked with The Smith Family mentoring teenage boys, and served with the Lighthouse Foundation helping at risk youth. I was part of a foundation group of 26 farmers to form the Campaspe/Runnymede Landcare Group in 1996. Coaching junior sporting teams has been a great experience. Currently, I am the board Chair of Bendigo Spirit WNBL team, and a board member of the Bendigo Football Netball League.
